What's your website for?

All businesses need a website these days, don't they? That's something that we strongly believe (but then we would, wouldn't we?). But do you ever think about why you need a website and what you want to get from it?

What's your website for? It might seem an obvious question, but it can be well worth some thought. What business purpose does your website serve and what do you want visitors to your website to do?

For an ecommerce website it's a pretty simple question to answer - the website's purpose is to sell products and you want visitors to make a purchase.

But for other businesses it can take a bit more consideration to come up with the answer. For example, what do we want our website to do for us? There are various answers to this:

  1. Promote our business
  2. Provide information about what we do to persuade prospective clients that Webfooted Designs is the web design company for them
  3. Provide information to existing clients
  4. Showcase our work

And what do we want visitors to our site to do? The answer to that is contact us to enquire about our services - by phone or email.

Why is it it important to be aware of the purpose of your site? Well the simple answer to that is if you don't know why you've got a website then you won't be able to get the best results from it. There's no doubt that a website is an investment - either of time or of money, or of a bit of both - so you need to have an idea of how to get a return on that investment. So, our advice would be to think about what your website needs to be doing for your businesses and review your site to see if it is working for you.

And of course, if you need any help you know where we are.
